Once you’ve compiled a nice resume full of knowledge in the field you might move on to do some outside consulting work. Many small businesses do not have the budget to accommodate a full suite of human resources professionals and may opt for some outside consulting instead. You may be responsible for assisting with setting up some basic HR functions and policies and can work on an as-needed basis. This option provides lots of flexibility and is a great career path after you’ve had an established career in the field. You’ll gain credibility as the expert and can do quite well in this role. There are firms that hire consultants for this type of work, or you can opt to branch out and establish your own consulting practice!
